Glad I found your hike to crooked lake. I never got there, but always wanted to. Camped at Clear lake which is at the end of the trail north of the Stillwater. If you can make your way up the cliff on the far side of Clear Lake you can see Crooked Lake. I would think that would be a fairly good route to use. BTW Clear Lake is on a copper sulfate deposit and so is very dead and very clear.
